Mince with Crusty Dumplings

 A family meal that is good and filling without breaking the bank.

 
Mince with Crusty Dumplings

 Ingredients Mince

2 medium onions

 Pinch each of salt and pepper

 1 tablespoon of oil

 1 dessert spoon of Worcester sauce

 1lb of lean minced beef

 I large carrot, diced small

 1pint of boiling water

 5 heaped spoons of gravy granules

 Ingredients Dumplings

 4 oz of self raising flour

 2 oz of suet

Pinch of salt

5 level tablespoons of water

Method

Set oven to preheat Gas 2, 300° F, 150° C

Peel and chop onions

Dice carrot

Add oil to the pan

Add onion and carrot and cook until onions are soft

Add and break up mince beef, brown lightly

Add Worcester sauce plus salt and pepper

Boil a pint of water and pour over gravy granules and stir

Add gravy to the mince and simmer for five minutes

Place flour, suet, salt into a bowl and mix

Add water and knead into a stiff dough

Divide dough into eight balls

Remove mince from heat and pour into an ovenproof dish

Place the dough balls into the mince so that they are half covered

Cook in the oven until the top half of the dumplings are brown and crispy

(approx 40 minutes).
