585AD. Hussa son of Ida succeeds his brother Frithuwald.
590AD. There was a great battle between Hussa’s forces and the forces commanded by Urien of Rheged. While Urien’s ally king Fiachn of Ulster dealt with and ousted the Angles from Din Guyardi (Bamburgh), the Britons led by Urien pushed Hussa and his men back to the coast and bottled them up on Ynys Metcaut (The island of Lindisfarne). After being besieged for three days Hussa was in danger of being defeated and driven out of his kingdom. But was saved when Morcant Bulc, Urien’s ally, paid a foreigner by the name of Llofan Llat Difo to murder the king. The deed was done a place called Aber Lleu (Ross Low) and the king’s head was stricken from his shoulders. Hussa unable to believe his luck, broke free of the island and drove off the demoralised Britons.
