579AD. Frithuwald another son of King Ida, succeeded to the throne of Bernicia after his brotherTheodoric was slain by Owein of Rheged at the battle of Argoed Llfain. ( Leeming Lane, Yorkshire). Despite him being in the king lists and ruling Bernicia for six years, there is nothing further in the records of his reign.
In 580AD, however the army of the kings of Ebrauc (York) Peredyr and Gwrgi, marched north to attack the Angles of Bernicia and were both killed by King Glappa of Bernicia at the battle of Caer Greu. Since Glappa died in 560AD, there are sound reasons to believe that Aella was more than likely to have been the king involved.
Question: since the original target of the attack was Bernicia, might it not be possible that the army of Frithuwald could have been involved in the battle in some way?
