704AD. Eadwulf - Northumbria

704AD. Eadwulf took the Throne after Aeldfrith died. (Probably because Osred the son of Aeldfrith was too young).
.
Eadwulf initially seemed to have the support of Berhtfrith (Son of Berhtred) lord of the northeast frontier in Lothian. They fell out however, when St Wilfrid wanted to return to Northumbria and Eadwulf refused permission. Berhtfrith was a supporter of St Wilfrid and wasn’t best pleased.
.
According Stephan's Life of Wilfrid, Eadwulf in reply to a message from Wilfrid, sent this harshly worded statement, "I swear on my life that if you are not out of my kingdom, within six days, you and any of your companions I can find will perish."
.
705AD. After a plot was hatched, Berhtfrith attacked the kings forces who retreated and were besieged in Bamburgh. Eadwulf after a reign of only afew months was exiled and fled. Possibly to either Dalrian or Pictland, as his death in 717 is recorded in the Annals of Ulster.

When Eadwulf fled, nine-year-old prince Osred came to the throne supported by Berhtfrith and Bishop Wilfrid.
