913AD. Eadulf High Reeve of Bamburgh died and his son Ealdred took his Place.
Little is known of Eadulf's rule in Bernicia, (The northern part of Northumbria only - the Danes ruled the southern half) other than that he must actually have ruled for some time before the date of his death.
Confirmation of his rule comes from various sources: Irish sources call him "king of the Saxons of the north." The History of St Cuthbert states that Eadwulf had been a favourite of Alfred the Great, While Aethelweard says that he, "Ruled as reeve of the town called Bamburgh."
It may be that Eadwulf gained control of the whole of Northumbria (at least for a time) after the decimation of the Danish army and their leaders by the joint forces of Mercia and Wessex at the Battle of Tettenhall in 910AD
According to The anglo Saxon Chronicles, Eadwulf had two sons, Ealdred and Uhtred, who both ruled in north Northumbria.
