806AD. Aelfwald, helped by other nobles drove out Eardwulf and took the crown of Northumbria as Aelfwald II.
  
During his two year reign, coins bearing Aelfwald II's name on one side and that of the moneyer Cuthherd on the other, were minted in York.

 

808AD. Aelfwald II, was ousted from the throne when Eardwulf with the help of Emporor Charlemagne and Pope Leo III, returned and siezed back his throne
