779AD. Aelfwald I, son of Oswulf, grandson of Eadberht Eating, took the throne after banishing Aethelred I, from the kingdom.
During his reign Aelfwald I was opposed by Oswald a supporter of Aethelred I. The opposition only ceased when Osbald fled, like so many before him, to Pictland.
