So why not take that look around now and I hope you enjoy at least some of my work.
When I began this site all I had in mind was showcasing my book 'Finding Rosy', but then I was presented with all these blank pages and I just couldn't help myself, I just had to do something about them. So I dug out in some of the short pieces I had written and using them as a basis began some new pages. It has been and still is, a great exercise for me as it keeps me putting pen to paper and hopefully the feedback will help me improve my writing

The Rosie and Katie Part of Story
The Rosy Part of Story
___________________________________________
Rosie: generally confident but inclined to step back and let others take charge. Learns to be more forceful (not to mention compassionate) and developes from a seemingly laid back schoolgirl into a capable no-nonsense leader.
" Breaking the silence Rosie said, 'Listen, Katie got us this far - now
it's up to us, so let's have some ideas. Kit?' "
_____________________________________________
Katie: Golden haired, freckle faced Katie is, kind, considerate and the type of girl anyone would love to have as a friend.
" Finally after hitting one more dead end Katie gave up, hung her head
and began to cry, 'Sorry!' she sobbed. 'I've got us well and truly lost
and we're running out of time.' "
______________________________________________
Troad: Treehopper; a lovable and practical crusader who reminds us that good can and will prevail.
" Troad found himself being crushed and thumped on the back at the
same time.
'Whoa!' he cried, grinning through the dust, 'It's nice to be missed.
but can you back off and let me breath?' "
_________________________________
Glim: Treehopper, shy, bumbling and very likeable. But is there more to him than meets the eye?
" Glim was slightly taller than Troad; he also had a broader body with thick muscular twigs and a pleasant homely face.
'Hello,' the girls said in unison.
'Hello,' said Glim, kicking the ground with one foot, hanging his head shyly and blushing bright red. "
__________________________________________
Kit: Old warrior Birch, who guides, protects and becomes a friend to them all.
" She screamed and was still screaming when she jerked to a halt and hung suspended upside down. Then the twiggy fingers that gripped her ankle hauled her back up and dumped her on the deck.
'You all right, Rosie?' asked a voice.
'Yes thanks, I am now,' she said shakily and looked up into Kit's craggy face. "

______________________________________________
Rosy: In looks the double of Rosie, in temperament the opposite. Feisty and independent by nature, she learns that when you join a gang, you need to become
a team player.
" Rosy realised there was only one thing to do. She had to give up all thoughts of being in the thick of the fighting. After all this was a team effort and as a member of the team, she would have to carry out her part no matter how small that part was. Now she knew why boogie had been so ratty. "
______________________________________
Tom: This small boy with curly hair and a cheeky grin, becomes a true and loyal friend to Rosy.
" 'But we've got to do some thing,' Tom cried, impatiently.
'Aye, and we will, as soon as it's light enough, Geordie said.
' But what if she's lying down there hurt?' Tom asked. "
____________________________________
Geordie: Ex boy slave, now leader of his own gang, intent on freeing the children from slavery.
" Geordie put two portions of rabbit to one side and after the meal sent Coza to take over the watch from Boogie.
'Are you expecting trouble then, Geordie?' Tom asked.
'No, not really, but you never know, best to be safe, man.' "
____________________________________
Offel: A two faced, grovelling, simpering, goblin slave overseer, who becomes one of the good guys after the incident of the waterfall.
" 'Here, Offel I've got another one,' Weevil said to the biggest and ugliest of the goblins, as he came shambling up to them with his knuckles trailing on the ground. 'Take her and put her with the other kids, then bed them all down for the night.'
'Yes, Master, Highness, Your wonderfullness, Your Magnificence.'
'Offel. Pack it in.'
'What, Master?'
'The sucking up. The creeping...Go and take her with you.' "
_________________________________________________
Coza Mattie Mick Davy
Members of Geordie's gang who add a cheeky human element to the tale.
" 'Rosy, Tom, meet the rest of the gang. These are me mates. The one with the ginger nut is Coza, the beanpole's Mattie, the one with the chubby cheeks is Mick and the short house is Davy.' "
Boogie
Another gang member, Geordie's second in command. Rosy and he clash many times.
" She looked up and was stunned - he was nothing like she had imagined. He had fine blond hair, a pale artistic face, with blue eyes set above a small delicate nose and his finger, far from being fat, were long and thin, like a piano player's.
Boogie saw the strange way that she looked at him and spun around to the others.
'You've done it again haven't you.' he said glaring at them.
'What?' asked Mick innocently, and the others grinned sheepishly. "

Weevil and Weedle: Polar opposites in appearance, equals in nastiness, you will love to hate them as they slime their way through the story.
" 'Quick grab her arms and tie them...No! Not at the front, behind her back,' he said as he swung her around roughly. 'Quickly, man! Before she breaks loose,' he shouted as Rosy battered at his ankles with her feet.
Grabbing her wrists Weedle tied them behind her, leaving along end of rope attached, this he held onto. Weevil released Rosy and she ran. Weedle jerked back hard von the rope and she crashed backwards, landing painfully on her bound wrists and banging the back of her head on the ground. "
_________________________
Crowvan and Midnight the Dragon: Wicked fantasy figures with a touch of humanity.
" 'I can give them eveything they desire.'
'And will you, Master?'
'Will I what? Oh I see, Will I grant them their wish? Well I will be so grateful to them, that I will certainly promise to do so.'
'But you won't carry out your promise, will you?'
'No, I don't suppose will. I've always been a bit nasty like that.' "
_____________________________
Leader and Ugly: Villianous leader of the Blackwarps and his sidekick.
" 'Order! Order!' the leader called.
'Order! Order!' Ugly squeaked.
'SILENCE!' the leader roared, 'THAT GOES FOR YOU TOO, MR ECHO.' and he took a mighty swipe at Ugly.
'SILE-AGG!' Ugly cried as he flew through the air heading for the other side of the clearing. "
___________________________________________
Clarence and Percival: Goblin guards.
" 'All right! All right! I should say I'm allright. You are now looking at your new overseer. Your boss and master,' Pecival crowed.
'I told you grovelling would get you everywhere, Percival,' Clarence cried.
'We'll have less of the Percival, but because of our friendship, I will allow you to call mr Sir.'
'Yes sir, my master, your magnificence, old friend and companion,' Clarence said eagerly.
____________________________________________
Rudge; Bullying red haired mountain ogre.
" The ogre turned around snarling, towered over her, his eyes flashing and boomed, 'Why don't you look where you are going, Midget?' "
'S-sorry,' Rosie gulped. 'I did say excuse me.'
'I, didn't hear any excuse me,' he sneered.

A grandfather of four, Fred freely admits to being long in the tooth, but denies being around when the Romans invaded.
He is one of the many ordinary folk in this country that enjoy writing, and there are many. Each year something like 150,000 books are published, add to that the thousands that are written but never reach the publishing stage and the many thousands of writers that write purely for pleasure and you get some idea of just how many writer are out there.
Writers are not a breed apart, but come from all walks in life, men, women, boys and girls, young and old. Some seem to be born to it and have written all their lives, while others come to it later on. They come in different shapes and sizes and write for many reasons, strangely enough not all set out to be best selling authors.
Some are into genealogy and spend an inordinate amount of time in tracing their ancestors, and turn the information into a book for their family and relatives. Others research local history and produce books of interest to visitors and locals alike. Then there are the writers of DIY manuals that tell you how to do anything, from painting and decorating, to writing a best selling book.
There are many more, but possibly the biggest group are the novelists and short story writers, those who write, or aspire to write a novel or an anthology and see it in print. Not necessarily a best seller mind you, but simply a book that someone other than the author might read and enjoy. Fred counts himself as one of this group.
As a child, Fred like a lot of boys was more interested in woodwork and kicking a ball than in English and writing. Despite this lack of interest he developed a passion for reading, joined the library and read voraciously, and still does. He had many dreams, as young lads do. But as he grew older he met a girl, got married, had a family and his priorities changed.
Then three and a half years ago, he was forced to retire early and as someone who had always worked manually it was a blow.
But he couldn’t sit around doing nothing, what he needed was a hobby and it had to be something he could do from home. Maybe now was the time to try his hand at writing. He signed up for a computer course at the local library, did all the basics, got a second hand computer and began to write. Initially he wrote for myself, and then began to write stories for his grandchildren. The Kids loved them, but they were really bad.
Oh, how he wished he had taken more interest in English at school; what he needed was help, an apprenticeship in writing if you like, something he thought didn’t exist. But he was wrong; there were many dozens of courses out there, run by some excellent writers. Anyway he found a ten-week, creative writing course, run by the Open University, it was ideal as he could study and take the final exam at home. Later he took a play-writing course, again with the O. U. But preferred the creative writing.
Next came a local writers group, an friendly group of men and women from many walks of life drawn together by one thing, the love of, or the need to, put words onto paper.
He enjoyed the group, they encourage him to write regularly, read out his work, listen to what others had written and he gained a lot from the experience. Sadly the group closed, but one of the members, John, invited him to join another group of like-minded individuals; he is still a member of that group, still attends the weekly meetings and is still serving his apprenticeship.
So three and a half years later he published his first novel “Finding Rosy” and began to set up this website
